Save the Muse

The Conway Muse has been providing a space for local artists since 2004, and is a venue that can accommodate any small to mid-sized event. We have a kitchen, a dining area, a dance hall and a black box with a PA and stage.

On June 12, 2008, Elfa Gisla went to Skagit County to aAdd Imagepply for an espresso permit for her existing commercial assembly occupancy.

This property has been used for auctions and for other assemblies since 1987 and was grandfathered in on July 1st, 1989. Despite continually meeting all building codes and inspections, Skagit County not only denied the espresso permit but also took away all her business and property rights.

This they accomplished by unlawfully changing the usage from commercial assembly occupancy to agricultural. Skagit County Planning and Development Services have offered no explanation for this.

UPDATE!: As of March the occupancy status has been changed back to assembly! This is an important victory but we still have a long way to go!

Despite the struggles we have faced with the county, we are currently operating at a no-profit status relying on volunteer labor as we continue to raise funds for local schools and art as well as providing a space for local art and artists. It also functions as a meeting place for numerous community groups, such as META performing arts group and the Rick Epting Foundation for the Arts.

We are starting a Save the Muse movement which will include a variety of benefit events to raise funds and support for our cause.
